POSCO MC Materials
R&D

At POSCO MC Materials R&D, we strive to lead the global market as a premier carbon materials specialist. Our R&D and investment efforts focus on providing advanced solutions in electrode materials, Anode Materials for LIB, future carbon materials, and environmental materials. We are continually strengthening our capabilities in quality and technology through the ongoing research and development of EAF electrode rods and ESF electrode materials used in steel and metallurgical processes. Additionally, we are spearheading the development of materials required for artificial graphite Anode Materials for LIB necessary for energy materials, in line with the low-carbon era. We also work tirelessly to pave the way for future carbon materials. With patents and carbon recycling technologies, we are committed to creating future value by making meaningful contributions to society and the environment.

Electrode material
In the realm of Electrode Materials, we are providing solutions for high-quality graphite electrode rod materials by controlling the CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) and Puffing of Needle Coke, the main component of the EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) graphite electrode rod. We are also developing low-carbon Needle Coke to support the steel industry's transition towards a low-carbon steelmaking process. We are driving the domestic production of the Carbon Paste electrode, a pivotal material for POSCO's hydrogen reduction steelmaking process, and for ESF (Electric Smelting Furnace) use. We remain dedicated to continued research and technological development for high-quality graphite electrode rod materials and Carbon Paste electrode manufacturing, aligning with the growth of domestic industries.
Anode Materials for LIB
For Anode Materials for LIB, we are propelling the sustainable development of global secondary battery cathode material clients through our research and development. By enhancing the performance and stability of synthetic graphite and developing cost-effective and efficient production methods, we aim to fortify our position in the global marketplace. Our efforts are set to have a positive impact on future energy storage systems and correlated industries.
Future Carbon Materials
They are gaining traction in various sectors owing to their adaptability. Depending on their form, these materials offer diverse characteristics, such as strength, thermal stability, and electrical conductivity. Nanocarbon materials, such as Carbon Nanotubes and Graphene, along with industrial carbon materials like Carbon Black and Isotropic Graphite Blocks, serve as fundamental ingredients for the materials industry. We are steadfast in our commitment to pioneering advancements in material development and innovation, along with persistent research on future carbon materials.
Environmental Materials
With the growing emphasis on carbon neutrality and eco-friendly industrialization, the demand for carbon materials is on the rise. We are dedicated to ongoing research on environmentally friendly materials and the reutilization of waste carbon materials to create carbon materials suitable for the low-carbon era. We envision a future that optimizes resource usage and curtails carbon emissions through the development and recycling of sustainable carbon materials.
